Obedience.
All our club members come along to learn how to train their dog and to have fun together. Most people start with the Basic 6 Week Obedience Course. But don’t stop there!! Once you have completed the basic course, we hope you go on to higher level Obedience. Owning a dog is one of life’s great pleasures, with many rewards. It is also a responsibility and we are here to assist you to become a responsible dog owner. Dog training helps to build a great relationship between you and your dog.
Beginners’ 6 week course (Karen or Kathy)
Handlers will learn how to walk their dogs correctly on the lead, teach their dogs to sit, drop, stay and come when called.
These activities will be done at a distance of 3 – 4 metres. Stay exercises are held for 30 seconds – 1 minute.
Behavioural issues will be discussed during play/ rest sessions during the lesson which is of 1 hrs duration.
A low stress assessment will be given at the completion of the course in lesson 6.
Dogs passing this assessment will then be able to continue on into the next class.
Dogs needing extra time in the beginners class will be invited to continue in the next beginners class being held.
Class 2 Obedience (Bill or John)
Build on the fundamentals learnt during the basic course and learn more obedience exercises
Class 3 Obedience (Karen or Kathy)
More advanced obedience training.
Working offlead and lots of socializing (for dogs and their owners!)
1. Obedience Training
(a) Approved collars only may be worn during training. Collars approved for obedience include the following styles:
(i) Correction chain style,
(ii) Head Halter style,
(iii) Martingale style.
(b) Pinch type collars or collars with prongs designed to protrude into a dog’s neck are expressly banned.
(c) Handlers 15 years or under must have permission to train, either from a committee member or instructor.
(d) Testing for promotion to the next class may occur:
(i) at a member’s request.
(ii) when the instructor determines that a dog and handler are competent at the level of training
Loose footwear such as “thongs” may not be worn during training
